Permission was given for Areen Heart (FR) to go early to post and be mounted in the chute.

An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Areen Heart (FR), ridden by Martin Harley and trained by David O’Meara, which broke well from the stalls to lead the field before being challenged inside the final furlong to finish second, beaten by 1 length.

The rider and the trainer’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race.

The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Areen Heart (FR) failed to reveal any abnormalities.

The rider stated that he had no specific instructions having ridden the horse several times, however stated that he had intended to make the running as these tactics had worked well previously.

He added that Areen Heart (FR) is an un- genuine character who finds little for pressure and is becoming increasingly resentful of the use of the whip.

Harley further added that the gelding has an awkward head carriage and he had to cajole Areen Heart (FR) in order to try and get the best from his mount, but when ridden more vigorously on the run to the line, in his opinion, he lost ground on the winner.

The trainer’s representative stated that she was happy with the ride given, and agreed that Areen Heart (FR) is a character who is tricky at home as well as on the racecourse.

Their explanations were noted.

Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that the winner, Keyser Soze (IRE), had sustained a small wound to its left-fore fetlock.
