An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Enthused (IRE), ridden by Darragh Keenan and trained by Joseph Parr, which was held up at the back of the field and appeared to be tenderly handled in the straight, finishing last of eight, beaten by 11 ½ lengths.

Keenan and Parr were interviewed and shown recordings of the race.

The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Keenan stated that his instructions were to take his time and to get Enthused (IRE) settled and to do the best that he can.

He added that he wished to race on the inside with cover, but the gelding was forced to race wider than he would have liked and that having turned into the home straight Enthused (IRE) made a bad respiratory noise, a fact which he reported to scales.

He further added that due to the noise that Enthused (IRE) was making, he wanted to maintain a hands and heels ride and did not resort to using the whip.

Parr stated that the ride accorded with the instructions given but having had some initial concerns over Keenan’s degree of effort, he was satisfied with the ride having received his explanation.

Parr further stated that they would likely investigate the respiratory issue before Enthused (IRE) ran again and that the gelding appeared to settle better on this drop in trip to 10 furlongs having been, in his opinion, too free over 12 furlongs last time out.
