He’s a hardy little horse and we gave him a good break this time. He just loves his work and thrives from work and racing. The dead ground helped him. He’ll mix it now between the Flat and hurdles for the summer and hopefully we’ll have a bit of fun with him. We’ll be aiming for the likes of Killarney and he was unlucky in Listowel last year.

we are used to tipping away quietly on a Wednesday or a Thursday so come up here and do that, I really enjoyed it. Dad owns the horse and I'm delighted for him. It is hard to believe that this is his first win over hurdles. He is a cracking little horse although a clever man would stay on the Flat, wouldn't he! I just always thought there was a nice race in him over hurdles. I was a bit worried with the step up in trip and with the ground going (to yielding), but he saw it out well. He's so small and it just takes a while to get to know him: Liam (Quinlan) knows him inside out now. For a little horse, you'd think he’d be mad going down the inside in a big-field handicap, but he loves it! He thrives on that. He doesn't realise he is only 15hh - he thinks he is 17.1 or 17.2!. The horse is plucky, the jockey is plucky and when you have the two, it is a big help. We have only around 10 or 12 in training, we tip away and are very lucky to have Liam Quinlan, who does all the hard work. The bigger operations are getting bigger and the smaller lads are getting smaller but when you have one that is competitive, it is nice.

He's in good form, he just barely got away with the ground and wouldn't want it a lot quicker,. He was going as hard as he was able early on, they made it a good test and then started to die in front of him and he was able to get there. He'll probably going jumping hurdles now if the ground gets any quicker.

I thought Aine gave him a smashing ride, had him in the right position and it worked out lovely. I was a bit worried about the ground until I walked it this morning and I thought we’d be ok. For us in the jumping game that’s gorgeous ground. We might go to Listowel and if not we might hold him for another race in this series at Naas. Today was the plan and it’s nice to get that over the line.

The runner-up picked up when we got to him so maybe we were lucky not be be in an earlier battle with him. My little lad is tough and had the luck with his head down for the photo. He is a fun little horse, is easy train, bounces out every morning and does whatever you ask him to do. I'll keep him on the flat at the minute, he is young so I'll give him a chance to mature before we go back jumping. He handles Dundalk so that is an option for the winter.

He struggled the last day over hurdles and it knocked the stuffing out of him. It took him a long time to recover and we said we'd come back and have a go at this, with the light weight and see,. It was more to sweeten him than anything and it worked out grand. I thought Paddy gave him a peach of a ride. He is a very handy horse but his heart is in the right place. I wouldn't be too anxious to put a big weight on him and he'll pitch away on the flat for a while. We thought he'd be in the shake-up with the fitness level he had from the hurdles.
