Rob Hornby was questioned regarding the riding of Headora (GB), placed fourth, inside the final furlong.
Hornby explained that he had to make quite a lot of use of the colt through the early and middle stages of the race in order to maintain a prominent position.
He added that, in his opinion, Headora (GB) was not appreciating the kick back on this occasion and after being angled to the outside of the winner’s heels early in the home straight to make his challenge, the colt had then lugged left-handed from approaching the final furlong when tiring.
He further added that, bearing in mind Headora (GB)’s inexperience, he felt it prudent to hold the colt together to keep Headora (GB) balanced under a hands and heels ride inside the final furlong.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the colt failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Hornby’s explanation was noted.
Following the race, William Carver reported that Henrik (IRE), placed third, hung left-handed under pressure.
