Rounding the final bend, Party Potential (USA), unplaced, shifted right-handed resulting in Sopat (IRE) placed fourth, having to be checked which in turn gave a bump to Al Kherb (GB), placed second, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held to consider two incidents of interference shortly after jumping the final hurdle and on the run to the line involving Al Kherb (GB), placed second, ridden by Mr Tommie M.
O’Brien, Pateen (IRE), placed sixth, ridden by Miss Jessica Bedi, and the winner, Orchard Grove (IRE), ridden by Mr D.
J.
McConville.
Mr O’Brien was suspended for 2 days, on dates to be notified to him by the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority, for careless riding as shortly after jumping the final hurdle he allowed his horse to drift left-handed away from the whip causing interference to Pateen (IRE) and then further allowed Al Kherb (GB) to hang in that direction causing interference to Orchard Grove (IRE) on the run to the line.
Following the race, Miss Katie Powell reported that Balzac (GB), placed fifth, ran too free.
The Veterinary Officer reported that Sopat (IRE), which started favourite and finished fourth, was struck into on its right- fore, Al Kherb (GB), placed second, was struck into on its left-hind, Two Blondes (IRE), unplaced, was struck into on its right-hind, Silent Ocean (IRE), which was pulled up after the second last hurdle, finished lame on its left-fore and Pateen (IRE), which started joint second-favourite and finished sixth, bled from the nose.
