Thore Hammer Hansen, the rider of Showdance Kid (GB), was slow to remove the blindfold resulting in his horse being slow to start.
After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Hansen's explanation that the gelding had been attempting to put its head in an adjoining stall as the start had been effected which had made it difficult for him to remove the blindfold on the first attempt before successfully removing the blindfold on the second attempt was noted.
Approximately 1 furlong out, Tavener (GB), unplaced, edged slightly left-handed, carrying Calin's Lad (GB), placed second, onto a weakening Mabo (GB), placed eighth, which was hampered but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
The winner, Al Ozzdi (GB), appeared to show improved form, compared with its previous run at Beverley on 29 May 2019 where the gelding finished last of the eleven runners, beaten by 29 lengths.
The representative of Roger Fell's explanation that Al Ozzdi (GB) had appeared to benefit from the switch to a Tapeta surface was noted.
The gelding was routine tested.
Following the race, Callum Shepherd reported that Fitzrovia (GB), unplaced, hung badly right-handed; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Jane Elliott reported that Magical Molly Joe (GB), unplaced, hung badly right-handed; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the mare failed to reveal any abnormalities.
