Prior to this race, John O'Neill was asked to explain why he was running Onurbike (GB) here at Hereford on going described as Heavy, having reported that the gelding was unsuited by the Soft, Heavy in places ground which was too testing at Ffos Las on 22 November 2019.
The trainer’s explanation that the ground at Ffos Las was particularly holding which had perhaps caused Onurbike (GB) to jump poorly and having walked the track at Hereford he was happy for the gelding to take its chance on ground that was, in his opinion, less holding, was noted.
The winner, Ballybreen (IRE), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Ludlow on 25 November 2019 where the gelding was pulled up.
The representative of Evan Williams’ explanation that Ballybreen (IRE) had benefitted from the fitting of a cross nose band and the application of the first-time blinkers was noted.
Ballybreen (IRE) was routine tested.
