The Stewards interviewed L. Morris, rider of Shabra Emperor, concerning his use of the whip in this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.3(g), in that he used the whip with his arm above shoulder height and having considered his record, suspended him for one race day. F.M. Berry, rider of Reckless Lad trained by Patrick Martin, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung left throughout. W.J. Lee, rider of Downforce, trained by W. McCreery, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount changed his legs in the back straight and may not have acted on the surface.

An extended handicap for three yrs old and upwards (85 = 9st 10lb)
Weights - Top weight in the original handicap shall not be less than 9st 10lb
Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 5lb extra; for each race won. Any horse rated above 85 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 9st 10lb. Subsequently, the excess over 85 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any three year old rated above 85 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
