FormscanBy Michael Graham - SAINT SAM is in terrific form, mixing hurdling and chasing for Willie Mullins, and could repeat his victory in this race in 2022. He likes to make all and is certainly going to make this a test for the talented opposition. His stablemate, Sir Gerhard, won this race last year and could enjoy these calmer waters after finding life difficult in Grade 1 company on his last two starts. Ballyadam is making his seasonal reappearance, but with a rating of 149 cannot be ruled out while Relieved Of Duties is up in class after putting his rivals to the sword in a maiden hurdle at Cork.

Granny would have enjoyed that and it’s a pity that she’s not here to be in the (winning) picture,. It was a great performance and great to have the owners Ed and Mary Ware here. The Red Mills Chase was one of the races we pinpointed at the start of the year. Small fields suit him – he likes to get on with things and wears the hood. He’s hot and we were a bit worried that he’d be a bit fresh on his first run and do too much on the heavy ground. Paul got a few breathers into him. Those Grade Twos or Grade Threes are where he’s most comfortable and he could go to Fairyhouse. He is a better chaser than he was a hurdler and loves jumping.

Asterion Forlonge always likes to jump right, that's just his way of doing it but overall he jumped well. His jumping isn't going to change now with his age but it was a good performance. We went a nice gallop, didn't hang around and it is nice to get another win with him. I gave him a pop yesterday and he has always been a very good jumper at home and just has his own way of doing it. He is a high class horse and was bang there in those top Grade 1 chases so the ability is there. He has been around a long time, he has been a right horse and they (himself and Sir Gerhard) are two top horses so it is great to get the opportunity to ride them.

Noel Meade:- .I know I'm biased but I think it was the right decision. What probably made the decision was when Paul jumped the second-last he came over in front of him. You could say why didn't he (Cooper) go round him but he never actually had a chance to go around him because once Paul blocked him up, he had nowhere to go except to keep going straight. Rachael (Blackmore, on Amirite) came out and Paul went in (at the last) but I think he was the best horse. I'll have to talk to JP and Frank (Berry, McManus' racing manager) before I can say where he's going to go next because I don't know. Frank is away on holidays with the boss. I do think wherever he goes, he does need soft ground, that's essential.
