It had gone too soft for him at Listowel (last September) and I don't know what happened at Fairyhouse (October) as he never travelled,. Jack said his best was from the last to the line. He didn't get pulled up until down below and its job done. We probably would have preferred a bit more competition. They didn't go quick, and he was looking around him. He said it was actually slippy and he slipped a bit and then was a bit careful. I'd imagine, with horses not getting out, he'll head straight on to the Drinmore now. In fairness he was better on that ground - Wexford was horrible ground.

it’s great to get that job done and I was expected a good run. I was disappointed he did that (mistake) at the third last but it was his first day at school. Since he came here today he was gawking everywhere and was on his toes for some reason. He settled well in the race which was great but was having a good look at everything and I’d say he would have learned a lot. I’m very happy with him. There is a novice in Cheltenham at the November meeting or the Royal Bond but his jumping will have to sharpen up. He’s brilliant at home and has done a lot of schooling.

I couldn't believe who made that horse 14/1, it was a joke! We changed the way of riding him and he didn't come off the bridle at Down Royal, so I was wondering what I was missing - I couldn't understand it. He had gone off the boil after having a hard race behind American Mike last December and he loves the top of the ground. His half-brother won (Galop Marin) won four French Grade 1s. That chap (Prendergast) is in with me three days a week and this horse was his first winner as a conditional jockey at Down Royal. I left him on again today and it is great for him.

We paid a lot of money for him after he finished second in a point-to-point but we didn't see the horse that we're now seeing. Since he came in this season he is a different horse and while I know fences have changed him, anything he is doing he is doing well. He is a huge big horse so maybe we did too much with him too quick. We were worried about coming back in trip but maybe that trip is right and riding him that way is right. He'll need a few weeks now but we'll give him an entry in a graded race and he will go on soft ground.

When he ran well in Punchestown, we decided this was a good mid-summer target. He had a little holiday and then had a nice run over a shortish trip on the flat at Leopardstown to blow the cobwebs away. He came here with the four-year-olds allowance and really it was a fantastic ride from JJ. He got a good start, a lovely position and made a lovely move at the top of the hill. It was a very impressive performance. He was a fresh horse today and was dropping from a Grade 1 into a handicap, which is always a help. Today was the target so we won't rush him back but he will be going back into graded races somewhere.
