Utile (GB) wore ear plugs and was given permission to be mounted on the chute.
An enquiry was held to consider interference on the run to the line when the winner, Protected Guest (GB), ridden by Tom Queally, interfered with Valyrian Steel (IRE), placed second, ridden by Jack Mitchell.
The Stewards considered that the interference had improved Protected Guest (GB)’s placing as Valyrian Steel (IRE) appeared to come from behind and lead but received a bump on the approach to the line causing the colt to lose momentum.
With only a nose between them at the line, the Stewards revised the placings as follows: First, Valyrian Steel (IRE), Second, Protected Guest (GB), Third, Goldie Hawk (GB), Fourth, Great Esteem (IRE).
Queally was cautioned for careless riding as he allowed his mount to drift marginally right-handed, without sufficient correction, intimidating Valyrian Steel (IRE) for the final 1/3 of the final furlong and subsequently give the colt a bump on the approach to the line.
Following the race, James Doyle reported that Utile (GB), unplaced, stopped quickly and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormalities.
