It was ideal conditions with lovely quick ground and seven furlongs is probably his optimum. He was just worried out of it at Naas last time by a filly from Coolcullen who kept going like they always do from down there. They went a nice even pace and Niall was delighted with him. He seems to be in very good form at the moment and may come back here for Champions Weekend. He’ll probably be entered over six (at the Curragh) as well. The way he likes to be ridden with a full field you would want all the gaps and all the luck. Connections are getting great fun from him. K J Condon, trainer

The Stewards enquired into reason offered for the withdrawal of Mayaadeen, trained by D. K. Weld from this race

Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned and from Mr. L. Wyer, Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Clerk of the Course. Mr. Weld stated that his charge was present and had intended running, but having walked the track he felt there was patch of firm ground after the winning post and felt the animal would be unsuited by this having suffered leg trouble in the past. Mr. Wyer described the going conditions in detail and was satisfied that the track was safe for all runners. Having considered the evidence and taken into account that the trainer had walked the track, that Mayaaden was present on the racecourse and the animals previous leg trouble, the Stewards allowed the withdrawal and took no further action

Under the provisions of Rule 90 (iii), the Stewards allowed Geological, trained by Damian Joseph English, to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the horse was correctly vaccinated in accordance with Rule 91.

For three yrs old and upwards which at entry, are rated 80 or less (also open to horses rated 81-90)
Weights - 3-y-o 8st 12lb; 4-y-o & up 9st 4lb
Penalties - Performances before August 2nd for every 1lb above the rating of 80 1lb extra; On or after August 2nd for each race won 5lb extra; Horses that have not run three times and/or do not have a published handicap rating are eligible to enter and run at the discretion of the handicapper.
