Following the race, James Best reported that BANISH (USA), unplaced, hung right-handed from leaving the back straight. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination, during routine testing, revealed the gelding had bled from the nose. The Veterinary Officer further reported that GORTROE JOE (IRE), placed second, lost its right fore shoe and KREB'S CYCLE (IRE), which was pulled up, had bled from the nose.
