Permission was given for Mayne (IRE) to go early to post.
An enquiry was held to consider whether Tom O'Brien, the rider of Mr Scaff (IRE), which fell at the final hurdle, had continued in the race when the gelding appeared to be exhausted.
The rider and the Veterinary Officer were interviewed and recordings of the incident were viewed.
The Veterinary Officer stated that a post-race examination of Mr Scaff (IRE) immediately after the race revealed the gelding to be tired but not exhausted and recovering within normal parameters.
The rider’s explanation that Mr Scaff (IRE) had jumped the second-last hurdle satisfactorily and having allowed the gelding to fill up on the approach to the final hurdle he felt Mr Scaff (IRE) would be able to complete the course, however the gelding had tripped and lost its footing on landing after the final flight, causing the fall, was accepted.
Following the race, James Bowen reported that Mayne (IRE), unplaced, ran too freely.
