An enquiry was held into the running and riding in the home straight of Aquila Sky (IRE), ridden by Charlie Price and trained by Sam Allwood, which ran on well to finish fourth, beaten 5½ lengths.
The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated his instructions were to drop Aquila Sky (IRE) out last and get the gelding to settle as it has run too free on its previous outings.
He added that the pace was steady throughout which resulted in Aquila Sky (IRE) running too free and jumping poorly, a fact he reported at Scales, so he held the gelding together in an effort to get it to jump better and get home.
He further stated that when he asked Aquila Sky (IRE) for its effort having jumped the penultimate flight the gelding was initially slow to respond, although he was pleased with the way it finished albeit staying on at the one pace.
He suggested that, going forward, a hood might help Aquila Sky (IRE) to settle better, together with a big galloping track.
The trainer stated that the ride accorded with his instructions and he was satisfied with the ride.
