A below average maiden hurdle in which well backed favourite Grand Lahou appeared to have all the form to win. The gelding attempted to make all but, once headed, weakened quickly and, while he cannot be dismissed quite yet, is one to avoid next time out.

Winner Hey Porter had shown nice bits of hurdle form recently and winning trainer John Codd later reported "that win was a bonus for the horse who is a chaser in the making. He may run in one more hurdle, but only on nice ground."

Runner-up Fairwood Bob had shown bits of reasonable point to point form and looked the most likely winner at the second last. However, he was outbattled from the last and probably needs to improve to win a maiden.

Winterwood ran fine but is no star while well backed pair Wait For Green and Bold Fencer are each eligible for handicaps now.

Non-Runners were Yatool (lame) and the three reserves.
