An enquiry was held into the running and riding of MR ZOOM ZOOM, ridden by Fran Berry and trained by George Peckham, which after breaking well from the stalls was heavily restrained and held up at the back of the field throughout before staying on under a hands and heels ride in the home straight to finish sixth, beaten by 4 ½ lengths. The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding, during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities. The rider stated that his instructions were to miss the start from his wide draw, get MR ZOOM ZOOM in amongst horses and to get the gelding to finish off as best as possible. Berry explained that MR ZOOM ZOOM is of a nervous disposition, had become worked up in the preliminaries on this occasion and being a breeze-up horse has proved difficult to settle in the past. He added that MR ZOOM ZOOM had jumped too well which meant that the gelding had to be heavily restrained in order to obtain a Position nearer the rails, which was accentuated by the fact that he had run very freely in the early stages. He further added that MR ZOOM ZOOM was denied a clear run for some distance after leaving the back straight, a fact that he reported at Scales, and ran on well through beaten horses when asked for its finishing effort. His explanation was noted.
