Permission was given for Sleeping Lion (USA) to wear a red hood to post.
An enquiry was held to consider why James Fanshawe was running Sleeping Lion (USA) here at Ascot on going described as Good to Firm, having declared the gelding a non-runner at Ascot on 25 July 2020 on ground with the same official description.
The trainer’s representative stated that heavy rain had fallen prior to the race on 25 July 2020, which raised concerns as to the suitability of the ground to Sleeping Lion (USA), so the gelding was subsequently declared a non-runner.
Inside the final furlong, Eddystone Rock (IRE), unplaced, drifted slightly right denying a clear run to Australis (IRE), unplaced, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Following the race, Jack Mitchell reported that Holy Kingdom (IRE), placed fourth, hung badly left- handed and the Veterinary Officer reported that Sleeping Lion (USA), placed third, lost its left hind shoe.
