An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after two incidents of interference inside the final 2 furlongs involving the winner Liberty Coach (GB), ridden by Brandon Wilkie and Persian Phoenix (IRE), placed second, ridden by Archie Young.
After hearing evidence from both riders and viewing recordings of the incidents, it was established that in the first incident approximately 1¾ furlongs out, Liberty Coach (GB) had hung right-handed making contact with Persian Phoenix (IRE), briefly unbalancing that filly.
In the second incident, it was considered that from near the 1 furlong marker Liberty Coach (GB) continued to hang right-handed intimidating Persian Phoenix (IRE) off its intended line.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Liberty Coach (GB)’s placing as Persian Phoenix (IRE) had suffered only minimal interference in the first incident a good distance out, before appearing to lose no discernible momentum when carried off its intended line without there being any contact in the second incident.
Furthermore Persian Phoenix (IRE) was always being comfortably held by Liberty Coach (GB) on the run to the line, to be beaten a Neck margin.
Both incidents of interference were found to be accidental as Wilkie had been taking reasonable steps to both prevent and correct his mount from hanging right-handed.
Following the race, Shay Farmer reported that Kaaress (IRE), placed fifth, hung left-handed in the straight.
