The Stewards enquired into an incident after the last hurdle involving Our Man Zebo, ridden by B.J. Geraghty, placed first and Thekingofconnemara, ridden by J.J. Burke, placed fourth, where it appeared Our Man Zebo drifted towards Thekingofconnemara in the last 100 yards. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was caused by B.J. Geraghty riding carelessly and consequently cautioned him having taken his clean previous record into consideration. The Stewards received a report from P.L. Malone , Turf Club Clerk of the Scales, regarding the fact that M.J. Bolger , rider of Grove Field , weighed in at 1.9 lbs overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that he had been wasting to do his minimum weight of 10st and having weighed out comfortably within the rules he had a good drink of water. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that M.J. Bolger was in breach of Rule 231 and they therefore suspended him for 1 raceday having taken into consideration that this was his first breach of this rule. The Stewards received a report from P.L. An extended handicap hurdle for four yrs old and upwards (130 = 11st 10lb)
Weights - Top weight in the original handicap shall not be less than 11st 10lb
Penalties - Winner of a hurdle race after calculation of the handicap to carry 4lb extra for each hurdle race won. Any horse rated above 130 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 11st 10lb. Subsequently, the excess over 130 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any four year old rated above 130 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
