It was noted that shortly after the start the saddle slipped on KATIE’S KITTEN, resulting in Alistair Rawlinson having to pull the filly up.
Being satisfied that the girth had been checked by the Starters prior to KATIE’S KITTEN being loaded into the stalls and that both the saddle and girth were in a serviceable condition, no further action was taken.
An enquiry was held to consider two incidents of interference from approaching the final furlong involving the winner, Bomb Squad (IRE), ridden by Laura Coughlan, and Velocistar (IRE), placed second, ridden by Josephine Gordon.
In the first incident, just inside the final furlong, Coughlan was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as she failed to take sufficient steps to prevent her mount from drifting left- handed, carrying Velocistar (IRE) off its intended line for several strides towards the rail.
In the second incident, approximately half a furlong out, the interference was found to be accidental in that Bomb Squad (IRE) edged left-handed despite Coughlan’s best efforts to correct the gelding, causing Gordon to have to take a slight check.
Being a 7Ib Claiming Apprentice, Coughlan was offered the opportunity to have someone accompany her in the enquiry, but declined.
