An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference inside the final furlong when Espionne (GB), placed second, ridden by Clifford Lee, interfered with Mawada (IRE), placed third, ridden by Billy Garritty.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Espionne (GB)’s placing as Mawada (IRE) lost no ground or momentum as a result of the interference to be beaten by a short head at the line.
Lee was cautioned for careless riding as he failed to take sufficient steps to prevent his mount from drifting right-handed carrying Mawada (IRE) slightly off its intended line.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Espionne (GB), which started favourite and finished second, finished lame on its left-fore.
