Permission was given for Astrospeed (IRE) to go to post early.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on the run to the line when the winner Kupa River (IRE) ridden by Ben Curtis, interfered with Young John (IRE), placed second, ridden by Rossa Ryan, with the official distance a head at the line.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Kupa River’S (IRE) placing as the interference had been very minimal, with Young John (IRE) being intimidated only slightly off its intended line, losing no momentum.
The interference was found to be accidental as Kupa River (IRE), shifted quickly right-handed taking Young John (IRE) marginally off his intended line.
The performance of Astrospeed (IRE) which finished last of the eight runners, was considered.
The explanation from James Fanshawe’s representative that the gelding was unsuited by the Good, Good to Firm in places going on this occasion and would prefer a softer surface was noted.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities.
