Approaching 3 furlongs out, the strong-travelling winner, Lordship (GER), shifted marginally right- handed off the heels of a weakening Peaceful Night (GB), placed fourth, briefly making contact with Miss Cynthia (GB), placed second, which was legitimately holding its racing line.
After viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved and it had not improved the placing of Lordship (GER).
The performance of Fair Dinkum (IRE), which started second favourite and finished fifth of five runners, was considered.
The representative of Hughie Morrison could offer no explanation for the colt’s performance.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Fair Dinkum (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
