Prior to this race, Martyn Meade was asked to explain the reason why he was running Fox Vardy (USA) here at Newmarket on going officially described as Good to Firm, having reported that the colt would prefer an easier surface following its run at Goodwood on 2 August 2019.
The trainer explained that he had walked the course today at Newmarket and, in his opinion, the ground was more suitable for Fox Vardy (USA) than it had been at Goodwood.
Following the race, Tim Clark reported that Stamford Raffles (GB), placed fifth, hung left throughout.
