An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference inside the final half a furlong, involving the winner, Infrastructure (GB), ridden by Rob Hornby; Dark Red (IRE), placed second, ridden by Ben Curtis and Lunar Jet (GB), which dead heated for third, ridden by Jimmy Quinn.
The Stewards considered that the interference had improved Dark Red (IRE)’s placing because, by ducking sharply right and into the path of an advancing Lunar Jet (GB), Quinn had to take a sharp pull on the gelding, and in so doing, lost lengths and momentum.
The placings were revised as follows: First – Infrastructure (GB); Second – Lunar Jet (GB); Third – Dark Red (IRE) and Fourth – Vivid Diamond (IRE).
The interference was found to be accidental as Dark Red (IRE) ducked sharply right, away from the whip, interfering with Lunar Jet (GB), which in turn turned the quarters of the winner, Infrastructure (GB).
Following the race, Richard Kingscote reported that Gossip Column (IRE), placed seventh, was slowly away and the Veterinary Officer reported that Lunar Jet (GB), placed second, lost its left hind shoe.
