It was never in doubt!. You have to ride him for luck and they didn't go hard early and then they are sprinting. It's very hard when they get first run on you, even if they are inferior horses, to pull them back. He got there in the end. I would have been disappointed as a trainer if I had gone the whole year without winning one with him. I had a blip in the middle of the season when his bloods went all wrong and I had to back off him, and then dealing with ground and everything else. His only bad run was the Bold Lad and I don't know why, maybe because all the owners were here!. He's in tomorrow and we'll see how he is in the morning. There is also a race here on the last day for him.

Over the five on this sort of ground, especially the way the track is riding the last few days with the wind, he’s been struggling to make up the ground. I sent Dave Mason down to the gate with him today as he gets a bit buzzy with the open spaces here. When you ride them for luck it’s exactly what it says on the tin. If he hit the front a furlong down then I won’t use the jockey again and also he won’t finish in the first three. That’s the way he is. The other horse went out heart on his sleeve. I love both horses and it’s hard when one beats the other but at least one of them has won. They will come back here next month for the Bold Lad.

It’s good to get him started and I hadn’t done a lot with him. It’s a poisoned chalice as the man who had him before done a great job with him. You are always worried that they will go backwards. Shane said he’s the same horse and he did it well. We’ll have a look at handicaps now. The other horse ran well and looks like he might win his maiden too.
