An enquiry was held to consider the unseat of Tabitha Worsley from Message To Martha (GB) who attempted to run out in the final strides before the last fence, and whether it was contrary to the mare’s welfare to continue in the race.

The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the incident.

Worsley explained that although Message To Martha (GB) had jumped right at the two fences prior and become slightly detached, she didn’t have any concerns over the mare’s welfare as she was not tired.

She added that fatigue was not a contributing factor in her attempting to run out, which resulted in the mare becoming momentarily lodged on the fence.

Her explanation was noted.

The Veterinary Officer reported that a post- race examination of the mare failed to reveal any abnormalities.

The apparent improvement in form of the winner Wheesht (IRE), compared with its previous run at Wetherby on 22 January 2022 where the mare finished fifth beaten 45 ¼ lengths was considered.

Alastair Ralph's comments that Wheesht (IRE) benefitted from better ground on this occasion were noted and the mare was routine tested.

On Veterinary advice, Rose Ohara (GB), placed second, did not enter the winners enclosure.

The Veterinary Officer subsequently reported that the mare lost its right fore shoe.

Following the race, the Veterinary Officer also reported that Poniente (GB), placed third, finished lame on its right fore and lost its right fore shoe.
