Permission was given for Mayne (IRE) to go early to post.

An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Rickety Gate (GB), ridden by Ryan Day and trained by Nicky Richards, which was settled towards the rear and tenderly handled throughout to finish eighth of the twelve finishers, beaten by 44½ lengths.

The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that two post-race examinations of the gelding, during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities.

The rider stated his instructions were to drop the gelding in three-quarters of the way down the field, hold onto him for as long as possible and finish his race off.

In explaining his ride, Day said that Rickety Gate (GB) did not travel well, struggling with the strong pace, and began to hang and jump left-handed when put under pressure and it was not until after the second-last hurdle that he was able to ask his mount for an effort when, in his opinion, the gelding had stayed on at the one-pace.

The trainer confirmed the instructions but added that ideally he would have liked Rickety Gate (GB) not to have been so far back and closer to the pace.

Day was suspended for 12 days for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure Rickety Gate (GB) obtained the best possible placing, in that he failed to ride his mount in such a way that he could be seen to ask for timely, real or substantial effort.

Following the race, Brian Hughes reported that Legal Beagle (IRE), unplaced, hung right-handed throughout.
