Daniel Muscutt, the rider of Gonnetot (FR), unplaced and beaten 18 ½ lengths, was questioned regarding his riding of the gelding in the home straight when it appeared to be tenderly ridden.
Muscutt explained that the gelding had jumped slowly from the stalls then proceeded to hang right-handed away from the other horses throughout the race, a statement which he reported at the scales after the race.
He continued that he felt he had obtained the best possible placing, stating that Gonnetot (FR) had an awkward head carriage while continuing to hang right-handed in the home straight and was difficult to keep straight despite his best efforts, he further added that due to how the gelding was hanging he felt it prudent to hold Gonnetot (FR) together to keep balanced and straight under a hands and heels ride.
His explanation was noted.
Following the race, Rossa Ryan reported that Mayfair Gold (IRE), placed second, ran too freely.
