we took a bit of a chance running him on quickish ground at Gowran last week, and Leigh said he handled it (heavy) well today. Pat (Smullen) said he was looking all around him at Gowran and felt he'd improve a lot for the experience, and that showed today. He came out of the race so well that we decided to come here. We won't run him again for a few weeks and freshen him up as he's had three quick runs. Mrs D A Love, trainer

The Stewards interviewed L.F. Roche, rider of Not A Bad Oul Day, concerning his use of the whip in in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion L.F. Roche was in breach of Regulation 10 3 (f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency, and having considered his record, they cautioned him accordingly.

An extended handicap for three yrs old only (75 = 9st 12lb)
Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 5lb extra; for each race won. Any horse rated above 75 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 9st 12lb. Subsequently, the excess over 75 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse.
