An enquiry was held into the finish of this race in which Nessfield Blue (GB), ridden by Jamie Moore, stopped quickly and pulled itself up in front, allowing the winner, Percussion (GB), ridden by Harry Reed, and Ivilnoble (IRE), placed second, ridden by Ben Ffrench Davis to pass the gelding on the run in.
Reed and Ffrench Davis were interviewed and shown recordings of the finish.
Reed explained that whilst his horse was tired, it had stayed on at the one pace and had been fortunate enough not to be inconvenienced by Nessfield Blue (GB) stopping quickly in front.
Ffrench Davis explained that having seen Nessfield Blue (GB) stop in front Ivilnoble (IRE) had taken the opportunity to try and do the same and he had used his whip to encourage the gelding to finish the race.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post- race examination of Nessfield Blue (GB), Percussion (GB), Ivilnoble (IRE), and Bleue Away (IRE), which finished third, failed to reveal any abnormalities and that all horses had recovered within the expected parameters.
