An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Manimole (GB), ridden by Jordan Nailor and trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies, which raced keenly towards the rear of the field before being asked for an effort rounding the bend turning into the home straight to finish third of eleven, beaten by 8 lengths, under tender handling.

The rider and the trainer’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the mare failed to reveal any abnormalities.

The rider stated his instructions were to drop Manimole (GB) in approximately ¾ back in the field and get her settled as it was the mare’s first run.

He added that he asked Manimole (GB) for an effort rounding the bend turning into the home straight once the mare had begun to settle after running keen throughout the race, a fact he reported at scales.

He further added that Manimole (GB) jumped novicey on occasions and began to hang left-handed at the top of the home straight and continued to do this on jumping the final three hurdles, a fact he also reported at scales.

The trainer’s representative confirmed the instructions and that he was satisfied that the ride accorded with those instructions, as did the trainer after a telephone conversation with Nailor following the race, but added that the mare would be fitted with a hood on her next run to allow her to settle.

Nailor was suspended for 16 days, and Nigel Twiston-Davies was fined £3,000 for schooling and conditioning the horse on the racecourse, in that Nailor failed to be seen to ask Manimole (GB) for real and substantial effort to obtain the best possible placing throughout the home straight, in particular after the final hurdle.

Manimole (GB) was suspended from running in any race for 40 days.

Following the race, Jordan Nailor reported that Manimole (GB), placed third, ran too free and hung left- handed.
