Permission was given for Magnificia (IRE) to wear a hood in the Parade Ring.

The winner, Come On Girl (GB), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Lingfield on 26 June 2020 where the filly finished eighth of thirteen, beaten by 10 ¾ lengths.

Tony Carroll’s representative’s explanation that the filly has improved since its first run of the year and benefited from the strong pace today was noted.

Come On Girl (GB) was routine tested.

An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Lilkian (GB), ridden by Josephine Gordon and trained by Shaun Keightley, which raced at the rear of the field, until turning into the home straight, where it stayed on to finish fourth of nine, beaten by 3 ¼ lengths.

The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.

The rider stated that her instructions were to drop the gelding out, but Lilkian (GB) dropped the bridle soon after the start and she had to encourage him to run.

She added that shortly after turning in, she had to take a slight preventative check to avoid running onto the heels of Baileys Freedom (GB), unplaced, ridden by Kieran O’Neill, who had edged across her but Lilkian (GB) then ran on well to the finish.

The trainer stated he was satisfied with the ride and that it accorded with the instructions given.

He added that Lilkian (GB) won as a 2-year-old at Southwell and he has since seen less enthusiasm from the gelding.

He further added that he put cheekpieces on Lilkian (GB) at Kempton last time out, but he chose to remove them today, as in his opinion, they had a negative impact on the gelding’s performance.

He added that he will try to sweeten up Lilkian (GB) at home, with the aim of regaining his enthusiasm.

Their explanations were noted.

Following the race, Callum Shepherd reported that Magnificia (IRE), unplaced, lost its action rounding the bend and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormalities.
