Permission was given for Cruz Control (FR) to wear a red hood to post.
An enquiry was held to consider interference shortly after the start involving Chianti Classico (IRE), unplaced, ridden by David Bass and Western Zephyr (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Sean Bowen.
Bowen was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he manoeuvred his mount left-handed when insufficiently clear of a free running Chianti Classico (IRE), causing the latter to slightly clip heels and stumble.
Shortly before turning into back straight on the final circuit, Henri The Second (FR), which was pulled up, drifted slightly left-handed, causing the riders of Rath Gaul Boy (IRE), placed fifth, and Hullnback (GB), placed second, to become short of room for a number of strides, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Upon entering the home straight, Houlanbatordechais (FR), unplaced, was switched left-handed to avoid the heels of a weakening Western Zephyr (IRE), unplaced, which lugged left-handed causing Swapped (FR), unplaced, to be hampered and Ernest Gray (IRE), unplaced, to be carried off its intended line, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Approximately ½ furlong out, Hullnback (GB), placed second, shifted quickly right-handed, away from the whip, slightly inconveniencing Rath Gaul Boy (IRE), placed fifth, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Hullnback (GB).
Following the race, Harry Cobden reported that Henri The Second (FR), which was pulled up, lost its action; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities other than it had lost its right-hind shoe and had some superficial cuts to the area around its left-hind hock.
Paddy Brennan reported that Hullnback (GB), placed second, hung right-handed, Stan Sheppard reported that Blow Your Wad (IRE), placed fourth, ran green and hung left-handed and Sean Bowen reported that Western Zephyr (IRE), unplaced, hung right-handed in the home straight.
