The Stewards received a request from H.Rogers, trainer of Calm Bay, to substitute the nominated rider S.P. Davis, with C.D. hayes, due to him being injured last evening at Limerick. H. Rogers explained that this animal was a tricky ride and therefore not suitable for an apprentice who had no previous association with riding the gelding. Consequently he was requesting C.D. Hayes to be allowed to ride the animal as he had previously won on him. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that there were exceptional circumstances in relation to the animal having difficult tendencies and having the minimum weight allotment of 8st 4 lbs therefore on this occasion they allowed the request for C.D. Hayes to substitute for S.P. Davis. D.P. McDonogh, rider of Battleroftheboyne, trained by Eamonn O'Connell, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hit the gates with his head in anticipation of the start.

An extended handicap for three yrs old and upwards (80 = 10st)
Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 5lb extra; for each race won. Any horse rated above 80 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 10st. Subsequently, the excess over 80 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any three year old rated above 80 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
