Rock Hurley (FR) trained by Donald McCain, lost its left-fore shoe on the way to the start.
As the trainer had not indicated at declaration stage that the gelding should be withdrawn in the event of losing a shoe prior to the race, Rock Hurley (FR) ran without its left-fore shoe.
Izzy Bell (GB) arrived at the start with blood in its mouth.
After being examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, the mare was deemed fit to race.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Hostile Hotelier (IRE), ridden by Lewis Stones and trained by Jennie Candlish, which was held up in mid division and stayed on to finish fifth, beaten 13 ¼ lengths.
The Stewards interviewed Stones and viewed recordings of the race.
Stones explained his instructions were to sit mid division and ride the gelding to finish in the best possible placing.
Stones explained that he felt Hostile Hotelier (IRE) was racing flat out from an early stage and jumped right on occasions.
After having jumped the fourth last Stones had to take a check off heels, and lost momentum.
He further added that the gelding stayed on one paced to pass tiring horses in the final stages of the race, to obtain in his opinion the best possible placing.
His explanation was noted.
An enquiry was held to consider interference rounding the bend away from the stands involving Bella Bliss (IRE), placed second, ridden by Brian Hayes and Izzy Bell (GB), unplaced, ridden by Thomas Dowson.
The interference was found to be accidental as Izzy Bell (GB) lugged left-handed rounding the bend causing Hayes to slightly ease Bella Bliss (IRE).
Following the race, Brian Hughes reported that ROCKY HURLEY (FR), unplaced, hung left-handed throughout.
