Permission was given for Uptoon Girl (GB) to go to post early, for Nacho (IRE) to be led to post early, and for Fille d'Or (IRE) to wear a red hood in the preliminaries which was removed at the start.
On leaving the stalls, Stamford Bridge (GB), unplaced, jumped left-handed at the same time as Uptoon Girl (GB), placed seventh, jumped right-handed, inconveniencing FILLE D’OR (IRE), placed sixth, and causing Miss Prancealot (IRE), placed fifth, to be tightened for room and in turn bump Uptoon Girl (GB) heavily on the hindquarters which resulted in that filly's rider losing her left iron for some distance.
However, after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Inside the 5 furlong marker, Uptoon Girl (GB) raced greenly whilst its rider had lost the use of her left iron and shifted markedly right-handed, carrying Stamford Bridge (GB) off its intended line.

For a sustained period towards the end of the back straight, a free running Sparkling Perry (GB), unplaced, edged left despite the rider’s best efforts, causing Upside Down (GB), unplaced, to be steadied when short of room on the rail.

Following the race, Cam Hardie reported that Upside Down (GB), unplaced, was slowly away.
Laura Pearson, reported that she lost an iron on Uptoon Girl (GB) during the interference leaving the stalls and was unable to regain its use until after approximately 1½ furlongs, before adding that the filly also hung badly right.
David Nolan reported that Nacho (IRE), placed eighth, hung right and weakened quickly.
