Permission was given for Bushtucker Trial (IRE) to go early to post.

An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Orlaith (IRE), ridden by Jamie Gormley and trained by Iain Jardine, which jumped on terms and was considerately handled in midfield before staying on to finish fourth, beaten by 3 lengths, under a hands and heels ride.

The rider and the trainer’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormalities.

The rider stated his instructions were to keep Orlaith (IRE) straight and balanced over the undulating ground, and to keep the filly comfortable and travelling throughout.

He added that he had been able to carry out the instructions, as Orlaith (IRE) had jumped to a nice position and although wasn’t travelling in the early stages, he was able to ask for an effort approximately 1 ½ furlongs out.

The trainer’s representative stated that having spoken to Iain Jardine by telephone, the trainer felt the ride was overly sympathetic.

Gormley was suspended for 10 days for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure his horse was run on its merits in that he failed to ask for sufficient effort in the closing stages of the race.

Shortly after leaving the stalls, Samsar (IRE), unplaced, hung right as Orlaith (IRE), placed fourth, edged left causing Pacific Coast (GB), unplaced, to be briefly short of room, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved.
