The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, Mr.W.Fleming, that J. Brennan, rider of Oighear Fuar, weighed in two pounds overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Rule 231 and having considered his record, suspended him for one race day. Furthermore the rider was advised to meet with the Turf Club Medical Officer to agree a minimum riding weight. The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of American Hope (USA), ridden by J.A. Heffernan, and trained by W.P.Browne. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. J.A. Heffernan, stated that his instructions were to drop his mount in from a wide draw, take his time and do his best in the straight . He added that he was unable to obtain a good position from his wide draw but made up ground in the straight despite running green and suffering some interference in the latter stages. W.P.Browne, confirmed the instructions adding that the horse is a light type who didn't need a hard race first time out. He also expressed his satisfaction with the ride. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that American Hope was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered. Mr. P. Caffrey, Acting Steward absented himself from this enquiry.
