I'm absolutely delighted. It was quiet the whole way up the straight until I got about 100 yards out and then I heard this massive roar (Kings & Queens Syndicate). He was brilliant. To be completely honest, i didn't give him the best ride by any standards - it didn't really go to plan, but he got me out of trouble coming up the inside down the straight. He didn't really hold his form, I rode him for his third run in a maiden and he ran really well and might have outrun his mark a bit. Now he has come back in the handicap and getting a bit more competitive. The lads are telling me he is in here for next Wednesday, touch wood if he pulls out well. He's a lovely hardy horse at home, there's not a bother on him. I'd say he would be better over a bit more of a trip as well, I'd say he is a mile and a quarter horse in time. The Stewards interviewed Cillian McConnell, rider of Zonik, concerning his use of the whip in closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Cillian McConnell stated that he just lost count but accepted he was in breach of R 10. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found Cillian McConnell in breach of R 10.3(g)(frequency) and having considered his record in this regard they suspended him for 8 racedays and 2 days tuition at R.A.C.E on the correct use of the whip, they also asked Mr McConnell to try and familiarise himself with the whip guidelines.

An extended handicap for three years old and upwards rated 47-65
Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 7lb extra for each race won.
Riders - Confined to riders who have not ridden more than 10 winners under any N.H. Rules or Rules of Racing from 26th March, 2022 to 24th October, 2022 inclusive
