The Stewards enquired into two incidents in the straight. The first incident involved Gun Shoot, ridden by C.R. King, placed third, Pennys Angel, ridden by L.F.Roche, placed second and Too Many Diamonds, ridden by R.P.Cleary, unplaced. The second incident involved Master Melody, ridden by D.E. Hogan, placed fourth, Bwindi, ridden by N.G. McCullagh, unplaced, the winner, Halarath, ridden by G.F. Carroll, and Too Many Diamonds, ridden by R.P.Cleary. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards took no action in the first incident, having deemed the interference to be accidental, however, they were of the opinion that Gary Carroll was in breach of Rule 214, in that he rode carelessly in the second incident and having considered his record, suspended him for three race days. The Stewards requested a report from C. Moore, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Halarath, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that his charge did not handle the quick going on her last two starts, but today benefited from a more forgiving surface. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation offered. C.D. Hayes, rider of Ed Led Jed, trained by John C. McConnell, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his saddle slipped leaving the stalls.
