The Stewards enquired into possible interference from the road crossing to the latter stages involving Buck Dancing, ridden by D.N. Russell, placed third and Fr Humphrey, ridden by M.P. Fogarty, placed second. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the judge's placings and took no further action. The Stewards requested a report from F. Flood, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Down Under, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer's representative reported that his charge is an inconsistent type who has disappointed in the past but is a previous course winner. He also felt that today's race didn't take alot of winning. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanations offered.

An extended handicap steeplechase for five yrs old and upwards (123 = 11st 10lb)
Weights - Top weight in the original handicap; shall not be less than 11st 10lb
Penalties - Winner of a steeplechase after calculation of the handicap to carry 4lb extra for each such steeplechase won. Any horse rated above 123 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 11st 10lb. Subsequently, the excess over 123 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any five year old rated above 123 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
