After race at Bellewstown Fri, 5th Jul, 2024 (1st)
He's a very clear-winded horse and, in fairness, the lads said they had him spot on and he was in good form at home. I wasn't really worried (about being off since February) once I heard that. . He jumped a tad slow and was flat out the first four furlongs. I wanted to ride him very forward and I had to sit and suffer a bit until we turned down the back. . Once I got a bit of daylight and kept him going forward a mile out, he started to pick up. Once I got to the front on him, he got comfortable and I was able to ride a race on him. . He's a grand horse and he's very straightforward. Obviously, he stays very well and goes on any ground. He's very genuine. . I wouldn't even mind where he goes in terms of track or ground. He just definitely wants a trip, and a staying track would suit him all the better. . We got the job done today so everyone is happy.

I thought we would have gotten a winner at Galway with Dolly's Destination but it wasn't to be. This lad has just turned inside out for us and it's brilliant. He's just improved and improved.

There's a big syndicate of boys that own this horse. They are all Bellaghy men from Co Derry. DJ O'Kane owns the Taphouse Restaurant in Bellaghy and he is raising funds for Leukemia. He was running a day at the races today. We pencilled this race in about two months ago and lucky enough it came off. The fourth in Leopardstown was a good run on ground I'd say didn't suit him. He's a summer horse. He's an ex-Flat horse and a good ground horse. We were a wee bit afraid that the ground was maybe too good, we didn't want to do him any harm. We'll see what the handicapper does. We've already schooled him over fences and he jumps well. He's a lovely horse and he's easy to work with.

He made the running at Downpatrick so that was the plan again. He enjoys it out in front. I stretched them a bit and then let him get a breather and he’s done it well. I got it handy enough early on. He tends to go a bit left under pressure but he finds plenty. He’s been in good form all season. We might give him another run or put him away for a break. We’ll see how he is in a couple of days.

He sort of makes it hard work for himself as he travels on and off. He's been like that in all his races. Shane thought four furlongs out that he was never going to get there and then he ends up winning a length-and-a-half. He actually makes it look easy in the end. Basically he probably wants up to a mile-and-six and a good galloping track. I don't think ground is any issue. He might have made it easier for himself today if he hadn't stumbled coming out of the stalls. He got caught very wide on the first bend. He is what he is. He's won his maiden now, thank God, and we'll go from there.
