He has been dropping down the handicap and isn't as young as he was. The blinkers sharpened him up. The real strong gallop sort of suited him and he is staying further now. He does (get that trip) on that surface. We always believed he was an out-and-out six-furlong horse and then he got seven but, as he is getting older he is staying better. He is easier on himself in the race. I just felt in that bracket, with the blinkers on him, that some night the race was going to fall right for him. Thankfully, it did tonight.

It's a lovely race to win, he won it last year as well. The handicapper will tell you he's 16lb better on the all-weather than he is on the turf and it's obviously right. He just loves it here and he had a beautiful draw. Mikey is great value for the 5lb and I'd say that made all the difference. I'm delighted for his owner Carol Roper, she's had horses with us for a long time and she's a very loyal supporter of ours. She gets a great kick out of them winning, she wasn't able to come today but that will give her a great boost. He's a great servant. There isn't a lot here for him with the way his rating has gone. I have him in at Laytown on Monday and he's in there off his turf rating so I'll have to sleep on that.

He belongs to a lady that has been a great supporter of ours for years, Carol Roper, and she'll really enjoy that winner,. He always runs great races so keeps himself high in the handicap all the time. That race suited him well tonight with the fast gallop from beginning to end. Ronan gave him a lovely ride, everything opened up lovely for him and he battled really well. We're delighted to win with him because he always wears his heart on his sleeve. It was a very strong race and the real strong pace suited him. He loved that and he's an out-and-out six furlong horse. If they go a bit steady sometimes he gets tapped for a bit of pace.

he's very game. He's had a couple of very good runs this year without having much luck. He always seemed to get a bad draw. He got galloped on top of one day in the Curragh and got the hind legs cut off him, we lost a good bit of time with him. We just ran out of time on the grass and the last day in Naas he came home well. I knew he had handled the surface here before. I'm delighted for Carol (Roper), she's been a great owner for us over all the years. She's so patient and the horses mean so much to her so I'm thrilled for her as she bred him as well. We'll keep going with him. It suited him tonight as they went very fast, took him off his feet early but he came home well.

He felt very genuine and very forward going, tough and hardy. Yeah definitely (he will appreciate going up in trip). He got into a good rhythm to halfway but he's a horse that doesn't do anything very quickly so when i just asked him to go up through the gears slowly then he really got on top in the last furlong. Carol (Roper, owner) has had horses with us for a long time and has been a great patron of ours so I’m delighted to win a race for her and she bred him as well. They are a family that have done well for us over the years but they nearly all needed to be four before they won. He was only beaten six lengths in Navan and just got a bit tired. He’s laid-back and has a great attitude. They are all a sprinting family so six will be his trip with an ease in the ground. We’ll see what Garry (O’Gorman, handicapper) does with him now.
