I’m very pleased. He had to come in as a sub but he did it nicely. At least he was wanted this year!. Ruby said they went a very good gallop the whole way and his stamina just won out. Jer’s Girl decided to take him on early and he just kept galloping with her and he just outstayed her. He’s just got lots of stamina and once it became a test of stamina the conditions suited him more than any other horse in the race. This wasn’t part of the plan. It was just the way things worked out so I’m not sure where I’m going to go next with him. At least we know he’s not too bad at that trip. He jumps fantastically and he goes a very very good gallop over two miles so he’s competitive at it. I’d imagine we will be stepping up. That was part of the plan anyway. I just haven’t got a race picked out for him yet. I’d imagine it’ll be Christmas. He was very exuberant today. He’s very brave and I was hoping that his jumping wasn’t going to take too much out of him but he put the other horses under pressure with his jumping.

He's so tough and his battling qualities and jumping remind of Hurricane Fly. To look at him would remind me of him too,. He wouldn't have the speed of Hurricane Fly but he has the stamina and aggression and he's certainly getting into that realm of ability. For him to have won six Grade 1s at his age is a fair effort. He impressed me there. He had a tough race there and it's going to take him a long time to get over it. It would be a worry if we were looking at the Irish Champion Hurdle. He'll get and entry and we'll see how he comes out of this. I thought he was finished after the mistake two out but Ruby maintained his position on the inside and a got little breather on the last bend. Obviously he got a good enough jump at the last. A lot of horses would have backed off but he put his head down. It probably helps that he ran in handicaps on the Flat and that experience is a huge help in those situations. At the fifth last Ruby pulled him back but he stood back off it and still got there. That must have taken an awful lot out of him. Ruby then made a positive move on him and I was wondering if he would empty. He decided to make the move but that might have used up a lot of petrol. From Ruby's perspective he felt Bryan was slacking off the pace and he didn't want that to happen. It's easy to ride them from where I'm standing. Ruby told me the reason he did it after.

That worked out completely different from the way they worked on Tuesday. Faugheen left Nichols for dead - maybe he left his race behind, I don't know. Nichols won four Grade 1's last year and he's no back number by any means. He looks like a Champion Hurdle horse now, rather than the stayers. Faugheen was a little disappointing. Ruby said he hung but horses hang when they get tired. Maybe he just met a good horse. They went a good gallop and Nichols did it the hard way, out in front, and jumped fantastic. Maybe he has improved more. Until he tells me something wasn't right I'm not making any excuses for Faugheen. We'll see how they come out of the race and they'll be entered in all those races that Champion Hurdle horses should be in. They'll probably have to take on each other but if we can keep them apart we will. Nichols Canyon was under the radar last year. He was a second string but did win four Grade 1's. We used the wrong tactics with him at Cheltenham and that took the gloss off him a bit. It was out fault. He put in a huge performance today. The other horse (Wicklow Brave) ran very well. We rode him to come home but Patrick said we should have made more use of him. I'll talk to the owner and see if we keep him in training. We were going to put him away but ran him in this race as he was so well.

he's run seven times this season and has been more impressive each time although he was very impressive the last day. He's won four Grade 1s and I don't know if a novice has won four Grade 1s in a while - it's a fair feat. . to do what he did there puts him in the Champion Hurdle picture. He was bought as a Flat/Hurdle horse and wouldn't have the frame of a chaser and will never jump a fence - the size of him I wouldn't fancy sitting on him running down to a fence!

he did what he does on the Flat - stays. He jumped and stayed and he's improving all the time. I thought he mightn't beat the grey horse (Alvisio Ville) but I'd say the grey horse lacked experience and beat himself: remember the winner is a professional racehorse. The way he jumped I wouldn't be afraid to go back to two miles. He was gaining half a length or a length at his hurdles there and they were no slouches in behind. He did it the hard way from the front and that's the way you could win at Cheltenham. He's in the three races (novices at Cheltenham) and I imagine he would be a Neptune type but I wouldn't rule out the Supreme. It'll depend on what way the ball bounces with other horses as we have plenty of horses for the Albert Bartlett.

His jumping has improved as he was untidy the last day. Paul said there was plenty left in the tank if anything came to him. He'll go the normal two-mile route and will probably run next at Leopardstown after Christmas,.

He was doing nice work at home but was quite keen and hit one a good clout early on. I'm hoping the experience will help him settle.
