An enquiry was held into the running and riding of General Allenby (GB), ridden by Miss Jennifer Pahlman and trained by Shaun Keighley, which broke from the stalls to be settled mid-division for the majority of the race under apparent tender handling, before being asked for an effort after entering the home straight to run on strongly to finish fourth, beaten by 7 lengths.
The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; being a 7lb amateur rider, Miss Pahlman was accompanied in the enquiry by a senior rider.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding shortly after the race, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated that her instructions were to get General Allenby (GB) to travel, sit off the rail and keep out of trouble.
She added that she had to cajole the gelding during the race as he is a tricky sort, and she had found herself further back than she had hoped when she was denied a clear run approximately 4 furlongs out, which she had reported at Scale.
She further stated that when she had asked General Allenby (GB) for his effort in the home straight, he had run on well.
The trainer stated that he was satisfied with the ride and that it accorded with the instructions given.
