An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Gallopade (GB), ridden by Henry Brooke and trained by Warren Greatrex which, having run freely in front, was eased back through the field to finish unplaced beaten by 28 ¾ lengths.

The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race; and the Veterinary Officer reported that the gelding was displaying a swelling to its left fore during routine testing.

The rider stated his instructions were to allow Gallopade (GB) to make its own running, as the gelding is a keen sort, the plan being that it would settle of its own accord.

He explained that Gallopade (GB) galloped through the first flight and as soon as it landed he was struggling to hold it and, thereafter, it hung so badly right- handed he was on one rein which he reported at Scales.

He therefore brought it back through the field down the back straight in the hope that, given a lead, it would settle better and straighten up.

However, this did not work either so he did his best to keep a hold of its head and although it finished with plenty of running, he felt there was never a time in the race when he could let it go for fear that it would either run off the track or interfere with another runner.

His explanation was noted.

Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Boleyn Boy (IRE), placed fourth, lost its right- fore shoe.
