An enquiry was held to consider the circumstances surrounding the landing of a helicopter at the same time as the horses for Race 2 were on the track and waiting to load into the stalls.
The Clerk of the Course, Acting Clerk of the Course, Assistant General Manager, the Pilot and a passenger, who was a part owner of LONG HAIRED LOVER (IRE) were interviewed.
The Pilot explained that due to Kempton Park being in the flight path of Heathrow’s easterly runway, he was under pressure from Heathrow Air Traffic Control to land as soon as possible.
He added that having circled the racecourse, it was only in his descent that he realised that the horses for Race 2 were on the course.
A report was forwarded to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority for further consideration.
Following the race, Kieren Fox reported that Torbellino (GB), placed second, ran too free.
