- Stewards Report
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference from 2 ½ furlongs out when the winner Wonderful Thing (IRE), ridden by Frederick Larson interfered with Doomsday (GB), placed third, ridden by Harrison Shaw and Regal World (GB), placed fourth, ridden by David Allan.
From 2 ½ furlongs out Wonderful Thing (IRE) hung left-handed taking Doomsday (GB) off its intended line with the rider initially taking reasonable steps.
After straightening, Wonderful Thing (IRE) shifted left-handed again under a right-hand drive and was straightened again before taking Doomsday (GB) and Regal World (GB) off their intended lines.
Having heard the evidence, the Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Wonderful Thing (IRE)’s placing as they could not be satisfied that Doomsday (GB) would have placed ahead of Wonderful Thing (IRE) without being shifted off its intended line and therefore the placings remain unaltered.
Larson was suspended for 4 days for careless riding as throughout a couple of incidents he allowed his mount to drift left-handed without sufficient correction.
The apparent improvement in form of the winner, Wonderful Thing (IRE), which had never previously been placed, was considered.
Michael Appleby’s explanation that the colt had appreciated a drop back to 1 mile and had benefited from a change of tactics by being ridden positively, was noted.
Wonderful Thing (IRE) was routine tested.
Following the race Rob Hornby reported that Lark Lane (GB), placed second, hung left-handed in the final half furlong and Andrew Mullen reported that Who's Ur Dandy (IRE), unplaced, stumbled inside the final furlong.
